By the end of the session, staff should be able to:
- Identify why schools are vulnerable to cyber-attacks and the potential risks involved
- Understand how to protect yourself and your school from a cyber attack
- Apply best practice for securing online accounts effectively
- Recognise how to improve social media safety and protect personal and professional information
- Identify and respond to social engineering techniques used to manipulate individuals
- Recognise phishing attempts and understand how to avoid them
- Understand what ransomware is and how it can impact systems and data
- Understand the purpose of the Cyber Choices programme and its role in prevention
- Know how and when to refer a pupil to the Cyber Choices programme
- Understand basic incident response procedures following a cyber security incident
- Recognise common types of fraud and how they may present in a school environment
- Identify useful websites and resources for further cyber security guidance and support

This approximately 1 hour 45-minute presentation is designed to raise staff awareness of how to protect the school from cyber-attacks, offering practical advice and guidance on steps individuals can take to reduce the risk of a successful incident.
Covers key aspects of cyber security in schools, including understanding risks and vulnerabilities, protecting accounts and data, recognising and responding to threats such as phishing, social engineering and ransomware, improving social media safety, awareness of fraud, and knowing how to respond to incidents.
It also includes elements of the Cyber Choices programme to help staff identify pupils who may be at risk of becoming involved in computer misuse offences, along with an overview of the referral process for these cases.
