Glyphosate use within the council - Find a freedom of information request

Request

1. How many litres of glyphosate were used by the Council (or any relevant contractors) across your area in each of the following years: 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015.

Decision

1. Lincolnshire County Council carries out weed treatment within the highway and corporate property through a contractor (Kier) since 2010. We do not instruct them to use a particular product but they have to comply with our specification which is that the chemical they use must comply with all current legislation. They do currently use glyphosate. Lincolnshire County Council doesn't have records of amount of chemical used as this information is not recorded in the way specified. Contractors currently carry out two treatments annually. The application of the herbicide by the Council is by a controlled droplet application where weeds are present with the equipment used ensuring drift does not occur during the process. It is not blanket sprayed over areas of footpath and our process ensures the amount of chemical used is limited to an absolute minimum.
