That an order be made to add to the Definitive Map and Statement a public bridleway running between Northlands Road (Glentworth) and Church Lane (Harpswell). There is deemed to be sufficient evidence to reasonably allege that bridleway rights subsist along the route. The map submitted with the application was marked with the route applied for and included a short section running along Northlands Road in Glentworth. However, the evidence does not support this part of the application route being recorded as a bridleway so the Council has decided that the section along Northlands Road will not be included in the order being made to modify the Definitive Record. As the proposed Order does not add the whole route applied for, the Applicant had the right to appeal the council’s decision to the Secretary of State, but no appeal was made.

An objection was lodged against the making of the Modification Order. The Order, objection, evidence, and the requisite documents were submitted to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a decision based on the evidence on whether the Order should be confirmed or not. In a decision of 5 November 2025, the Secretary of State confirmed the Order as made on the grounds that there was sufficient historical documentary evidence to demonstrate on the balance of probability the existence of a public bridleway over the Order route. As a result of the confirmation of the Order, the route running between Northlands Road in Glentham and Church Lane in Harpswell is now recorded as a public bridleway in the Definitive Map and Statement. It is called “Glentworth Public bridleway 1209” for the length that lies in Glentworth Parish and “Harpswell Public Bridleway 1209” for the length that lies in Harpswell Parish.
