Introduction to Consent – boundaries and personal Space

Outcomes

This workshop has been developed following requests by some local schools and following the changes to the RSE Government Guidelines. These state that students should ‘know the characteristics of positive and healthy friendships including: trust, respect, honesty, kindness, generosity, boundaries, privacy, consent and the management of conflict, reconciliation and ending relationships.’

This workshop is the first step in educating students about the very important subject of consent. This is delivered in an age appropriate manner for the first two year groups of secondary school. It gives a broad overview of the types of relationships that the students know of and how we act differently depending on the type of relationship we are in. We look at how invading personal space can make us feel uncomfortable and how we need consent to get close to another person. This is taught with a mixture of scenarios and videos plus encouragement for the students give their ideas and opinions.

Finally there is some discussion about peer pressure in relationships and bullying that might occur.

Service Description

Positive Health Lincolnshire is a provider of sexual health and wellbeing workshops across Lincolnshire.  We work in partnership with Lincolnshire Contraceptive and Sexual Health Service, Public Health Lincolnshire and Healthy Schools Lincolnshire. We deliver training to many different organisations, both statutory and non-statutory. We also co-ordinate a schools programme, delivering workshops to around 85% of the county's primary and secondary schools, and youth clubs.

  • can be delivered to individual tutor groups or whole year groups

  • one hour long, unless otherwise stated, although can be extended with additional activities or shorted to fit lesson times
