Positive Relationship workshop for year 5 - Stay Safe Partnership

Outcomes

Our Positive Relationship session is one of our most popular sessions for all age groups. Since we have updated our year 6 session to include more about personal space, boundaries and consent, we use the year 5 session to concentrate more on dealing with friendship issues and building self-esteem.

The pupils start by thinking of the different people that they have a relationship with and how they interact differently with each group. We then ask if adults have more power than them in a relationship, and if they do then should all adults have that power. We ask them how they can say no to an adult if they feel uncomfortable.

The difference between secrets and surprises are explained with some scenarios for the class to discuss and decide what they would do. This includes what to do if they are asked to keep an uncomfortable secret.

Finally, we discuss self esteem, how having a positive self esteem will help them as they get older. That they shouldn’t compare themselves to the pictures that they might see online and we are all different in a positive way.
