Highway Damage - Spalding Road, Deeping St James - Find a freedom of information request

Request

This pothole was situated directly opposite Spalding Road, Deeping St. James, Peterborough. It was, I gather, at a place where the road had been dug up to supply a gas service to some new properties across this road. The severity of the hole which I hit with the front wheel on the passenger side of my car, caused damage to the driveshaft of the car.

1. I would be grateful if you could supply me with the name of the contractors who were responsible for the filling in of the pothole and whether this was checked by the Roads and Highways department afterwards.

2. Could you also give me dates when this department was first informed of the pothole's existence and subsequently when it was filled in.

3. Also was the company who dug the original hole the same one as the one who filled it in? I also understand that there were several car tyre casualties from this incident.

Decision

1. This was a defective utility trench. It was reported to the contractors GTC Gas Connections by West Street Works Team on 13 December 2018 and they were instructed to carry out remedial works by the WestStreetWorks team. Ref ZP0100711-2/EPLR refers.

2. The area team were first alerted to the pothole on 20/12/2018 and job 2306681 was committed on 2/1/2019 and completed 10 January 2019 refers. The area team were not aware that these potholes had been identified as a utility defect.

3. Although LCC Highways filled the potholes They did not undertake a full reinstatement of the carriageway. I understand this was completed by GTC gas connections.
