BACS Payment for Vehicle Damage Compensation - Find a freedom of information request

Can you please provide your procedures for processing a BACS payment to somebody who is due compensation for damages due to pothole damages to their vehicle.

Have been informed it takes four weeks from receiving bank details so very interested how this is so in the 21st century.

Decision

Once a completed form of discharge has been received, this is sent to the person handling the claim to raise a payment request. That payment request is then sent to a manager for authorisation. The approving manager then forwards the payment request to the business support team who will input details of the payment through the Council's digital payments system.

The recipient's details are checked by Business support and put through as a one-time payment unless they have made a previous claim and then they have to be set up on the system as a supplier. If the claim is from a Business they also have to be set up as a supplier. The payment is then processed through the system by BACS.

Customers are advised that this process may take up to 4 weeks but payments are usually received in a shorter timeframe.
