4g and 5g for New Traffic Lights Fitted Throughout Boston - Find a freedom of information request

Request

1. I would like to know if the new traffic lights being fitted throughout Boston will use new equipment to host 4g and 5g?

2. Also, as 5g is already fitted In certain parts of Boston, i.e. Pilgrim hospital, just wondering if any health risk assessments were carried out before granting permission for the use of 5g?

Decision

Details of the means of communications Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) uses at traffic signals:

LCC uses fixed broadband connections at existing sites and may convert some of these to wireless connections should the site be suitable for this.

Wired broadband does tend to be more reliable than a wireless connection. At more remote or standalone sites, the Council uses a 3G/4G system called Metron to pass fault information back to LCC.
