Statutory utility companies, such as Western Power, have a legal right to install new apparatus or maintain existing apparatus in the highway under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and cannot be unreasonably prevented from doing so by the County Council as Highway Authority.

It is appreciated that these works are causing some delays, so these were publicised by Western Power prior to the works starting in the media and by advanced signing on site.

The traffic signals are being manually operated to minimise delays on Newark Road as much as possible. Tiber Road has been closed during the current period of work to avoid the need for a fifth traffic light head which would exacerbate queuing further.

The County Council will continue to inspect these works and address any safety or significant traffic issues for the rest of their duration
