We are currently looking into the possibility of changing the way in which we calculate sickness absence levels across the organisation, and would like to understand the approaches taken by other local authorities.
1. Please could you provide a description of how you calculate sickness absence levels across your workforce, e.g. working days lost per FTE
2. Please could you confirm whether or not any groups of staff (e.g. casuals, leavers etc) are excluded from this calculation? If so, what are they?
3. Please could you confirm whether or not any adjustments are made to accommodate term time working (if applicable)? If so, what are they?
4. Please could you provide your sickness absence figures for the last 2 calendar years (or an appropriate alternative if 2023 is not yet available) - Decision

I can confirm that the information requested is held by Lincolnshire County Council. I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.
1. The days lost figure is calculated by taking the total FTE for the 12 months and dividing it by the total number of working days (based on the work schedule) off sick. A working day is calculated by summing all hours off sick and dividing by 7.4hrs The calculation includes those people that have left the Council during the period.
2. Reliefs are not included in this calculation. Schools are not included
3. No adjustments are made for this, these workers are mostly on schools which are not in the figures, there are only a handful of term time workers in the Council
4. 2022 - 8.52
2023 - 7.04
This is a provisional figure which will be recalculated in February incorporating any late changes to recorded sickness, there tends to be only a slight change to the decimal.
