Unregistered alternate commission cost per child - Find a freedom of information request

Regarding the costs associated with unregistered alternative provision within your local authority area. Please provide the following:



1. The average cost per child for unregistered alternative provision commissioned by your authority during the last academic year.

2. The total amount spent by your authority on unregistered alternative provision during the last academic year.

3. The number of children in your authority who attended unregistered alternative provision.

4. The number of children who attended unregistered alternative provision in your area and the number who attended unregistered alternative provision outside of your area.

5. Any oversight or records your authority holds on spending by schools within your area for unregistered alternative provision, including any aggregated or individual figures available.

6. Any policies, guidelines, or criteria your authority uses to monitor or approve spending on unregistered alternative provision, whether commissioned by the authority or by schools.

I can confirm that some of the information requested is held by Lincolnshire County Council. I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.  
 
NB: unless otherwise stated, costs are per FINANCIAL year. They are NOT readily recorded by academic year.

1. Cohort 1: Average cost per child is £11,336. NB: this is for children who are awaiting a (special) school placement and/or new to area and/or are on interim home tuition. Some children will attend for one day (or part of a day) and others for more. Costs are not readily recorded per day.

Cohort 2: In addition, average cost for children permanently excluded from school who are in receipt of Online Education Alternative Provision is c. £55/ hour.

2. Cohort 1: forecast spend for current financial year is £1,065,554.
Cohort 2: forecast spend for current financial year is £2,255,072.

3.Cohort 1: 74 (financial year to date)
Cohort 2: 105 (financial year to date)

4. Cohort 1: all bar 2 students i.e. 72 attended the service in area
Cohort 2: all 105 attended in area - online education

5. The Authority does not hold information related to spend by schools on unregistered alternative provision either on an aggregate or individual basis.

6. The Authority seeks to support schools that commission alternative provision either directly or indirectly, whether it is regulated or unregulated, through a number of guidance and policy documents.
