Request for Scope 3 Emissions Data

As you are a council and collector of waste from a Homes for Students property, we are interested in understanding the emissions associated with the waste collection, transportation, processing, and disposal services you provide. This will help us assess the environmental impact of our collaboration and work towards more sustainable practices.

1. Upstream emissions related to the procurement of vehicles, fuel, and materials used in waste collection and transportation.

2. Emissions from waste transportation, including distance, type of vehicles used, and fuel consumption.

3. Waste processing emissions, if applicable, such as emissions from waste sorting, recycling, or incineration.

4. Downstream emissions from waste disposal, particularly if any of the waste ends up in landfills or other high-emission disposal methods.

5. Any other relevant Scope 3 emissions associated with the overall service you provide.

If you have already gathered this information or if there are specific reports available, we would greatly appreciate your

sharing them with us.

Decision

I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.

1-2. The County Council is not a collector of waste from Homes for Students. In a two-tier authority area waste is collected by the district councils and disposed of by the county council. For any questions around waste collection, you would need to contact the relevant district council.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero website has a spreadsheet with the different emission factors for types of waste management option – it can be accessed from: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/greenhouse-gas-reporting-conversion-factors-2024

Below are the details of the district councils.
