1. Lincolnshire County Council has received funding from Nuclear Waste Services for two pieces of work.
The first was consultancy advice which helped us to understand the potential investments in infrastructure that a geological disposal facility could make and how we should engage with Nuclear Waste Services in order to progress those potential investments. This is in accordance with the government's policy on the siting of geological disposal facilities.
The second was the actual costs of a Nuclear Policy Officer member of staff whose overall role is to use the consultancy advice as a way of progressing those potential investments.
The total cost of these items is, for calendar year 2024, £121,344.68 which is met fully by Nuclear Waste Services.
The breakdown is:
Consultancy:
- £51,298.06
Nuclear Policy Officer:
- Salary £47,685.95
- Oncosts £15,249.93
Travel:
- £422.24
Separately, members of the Community Partnership have been offered the opportunity to visit relevant sites in order to understand the implications of geological disposal facilities to their communities.
These visits were fully funded by Nuclear Waste Services. The three visits, all of which also involved other organisations, were: to a geological disposal facility in France which was attended by one county councillor; to the British Geological Society which was attended by one council employee; and to a low-level repository in Cumbria which was also attended by one council employee.
All expenditure was incurred directly by Nuclear Waste Services.
