Social workers in England are required to renew their professional registration with Social Work England each year between 1 September and 30 November. They pay an annual registration fee of £90. UNISON wants to establish which employers have either paid their social worker employees' £90 fee, or reimbursed their social worker employees for the fee, for the 2024/5 registration period.
Please supply the following information:
1) How many social workers did you employ as of February 2025 payroll? Please give your response as a headcount number (i.e. not as FTE)………. Social Workers
2) Of these employees, how many have you paid or reimbursed their Social Work England registration fee of £90 for the 2024/25 registration period? Please give your response as a headcount number (i.e. not as
FTE) ……….. Social Workers
3) A copy of any council policy/procedural note on the payment/reimbursement of the Social Work England registration fee.
Notes on question 2:
If you paid/reimbursed all your social workers their registration fee for 2024/25, please enter the same headcount number as for question 1.
If you did not pay or reimburse any social workers their registration fee for 2024/5, please enter 0 as your response to question 2. - Decision

1. 453 Social Workers
2. 157 reimbursements If a reimbursement was claimed under a different category or for a different amount, these are not included in the Q2 figure.
3. - Reclaiming the registration fee would be covered in the professional subscriptions section of the employment policies where employees can reclaim professional fees and subscriptions such as CIPD or Social Work England through BW.
