Battery storage fires - Find a freedom of information request

Request

1)  We request copies of all information relating to special training and equipment required or provided to the Emergency services within Lincolnshire in respect of tackling incidents within Energy storage, generation and/or transmission. (Battery storage, Carbon capture, solar farms, hydrogen generators, substations, convertor stations)

Battery storage fires are becoming increasingly common and pose a significant risk to the

emergency services and the public, so it is important for the public to be reassured that training

and equipment are available and also important to know how these are funded.

Carbon Capture is a very new scenario, with any incident occurring within the pipeline likely to

cause significant issues to emergency services, not least that traditional combustion engines

would be rendered immobile

2 a) does Lincolnshire have electric vehicles within fleet that could

enter a carbon leak situation?

b) If so how are they funded.

c) When responding please Including the costs of such training and equipment and how they will

be funded along with any communications relating to the special training and equipment for

dealing with energy infrastructure in Lincolnshire since 01/01/2024.

Decision

I can confirm that the information requested is held by Lincolnshire County Council. I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.

1. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, (LFR), meet their statutory requirements as outlined in the Fire and Rescue Services Act (Part 2 - Functions of fire and rescue authorities / Section 7. Firefighting) by considering new and emerging risks and developing plans and tactics to manage appropriately.  Direction and guidance is taken from National Operational Guidance (NOG), and as such LFR's policies and procedures adhere to NOG.  In addition to training packages, LFR have developed Operational Information Notes (OIN's) that support our operational response to the types of incidents outlined.

LFR capture 'risk information' relating to developments that may pose a risk to the public and fire-fighting operations.  This process allows LFR to develop response plans to support our operational response, allowing an effective and efficient response to incidents. Lincolnshire supply no dedicated fleet to deal with carbon leak situations.

2a-c.     Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue currently has no electric vehicles.
