Potholes reported to the council in the financial years 2024-25 and 25-26 so far

Please find below two separate freedom of information requests

1. How many potholes were reported to the council in the financial years 2024-25 and for the financial year 2025-26 so far?

2. How many pothole claims were made  in the financial years 2024-25 and for the financial year 2025-26 so far. Please could you provide a breakdown of how many claims were accepted, how many were declined, and how much money has been paid out in compensation claims. 

1. Financial Year 2024-2025 The number of pothole enquiries received was 13,761.

The number of potholes repaired in 2024-2025 was 32,323.

Financial Year 2025-2026 (up to 21 October 2025)

The number of pothole enquiries we have received so far this financial year is 4,401.

The number of potholes repaired so far this financial year is 13,095.

Please note, the number of enquiries stated above may include duplicate reports. Additionally, the number of potholes repaired stated above, relates specifically to pothole jobs raised. However, this does not include additional potholes that would have been repaired through other additional works that were carried out by LCC on the carriageways during each of the years.

E.g. Whole carriageway resurfacing works, carriageway patching and other carriageway minor works.

2. 2024-25 There were 722 Claims:

131 were settled, 589 repudiated, 1 litigated and one still in progress.

Total settlement of £33,489.57 2025-26

There have been 591 claims to date: 61 have been settled with 439 repudiated, 1 litigated and 74 still in progress.

Total settlement to date of £38,703.38
