I'm undertaking a Phase 1 Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental Site Investigation on a property in South Witham.
I'm looking for information about the Thistleton Ironstone Mine, including underground mining plans.
Could you advise if you hold any information about the mine, and how I can obtain it. - Decision

Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning Services holds one relevant paper file for a planning permission (ref. S.68/0562/97) for the importation of inert material for the stabilisation of old mine workings underlying South Witham Quarry. This was granted in September 1997.
The application documents provide some (limited) background information on the former Thistleton Ironstone Mine. It is understood that the mine was developed and worked under two consents (refs. MR/D/18) granted in December 1953 and April 1959.
As these consents were issued prior to the formation of Lincolnshire County Council, it does not hold any information on these. If required, we can arrange for the paper file to be viewed in-person on a Tuesday at Lancaster House, 36 Orchard Street, Lincoln, LN1 1XX.
