Collection, processing, and final destination of household and municipal waste collected

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information regarding the collection, processing, and final destination of household and municipal waste collected by South Kesteven District Council. Please provide the following:

1. A breakdown of how household waste collected by the council is processed, including:

o General (residual) waste

o Dry recycling

o Garden waste

o Food waste (if applicable)

2. The locations and facilities where each waste stream is sent after collection.

3.The percentage of each waste stream that is:

o Recycled

o Sent for energy recovery (e.g., incineration with energy generation)

o Sent to landfill

4.Details of any third-party organisations or contractors involved in the processing of the waste.

5. Measures the council takes to ensure recyclable waste is not contaminated and is actually recycled.

6. Data for the most recent full reporting year available (e.g. 2023/2024), or calendar year if that is how data is collected.

While this question is aimed at South Kesteven District Council (SKDC), Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) hold some information as detailed below:

Please provide the following:

1. • General (residual) waste - Kerbside collection in a compacted refuse collection vehicle (RCV) presented in wheel bins are tipped at Grantham Waste transfer station ran by LCC.

• Dry recycling - Kerbside collection in a compacted RCV presented in wheel bins are tipped at Grantham Waste transfer station ran by LCC.

• Garden waste - Kerbside collection in a compacted RCV presented in wheel bins are tipped at, New Earth Honey Pot Lane, New Earth Deeping.

• Food waste (if applicable) - Collections to commence in April 2026.

2. Grantham Waste transfer station ran by LCC.

3.The percentage of each waste stream that is:

• Recycled - 19,641.88 tonnes of 51,699.00 collected = 37.99%

• Sent for energy recovery (e.g., incineration with energy generation) - 32,057.12 tonnes of 51,699.00 collected = 62.01%

• Sent to landfill - 0%

4. All waste collected by SKDC by RCV's are tipped at Grantham Waste transfer station ran by LCC, haulage and disposal.
