The lanyard wearing policy

Request

(1) A copy of your lanyard wearing policy including if Councillors must wear their lanyard at all times, when it should be removed (for example if leaving the office).

(2) I would also like the data on how many lanyards were issued last year by your council and how much was spent on them.

(3) I would also like to know if any rainbow or pride lanyards have been purchased or ordered over the above period.

Decision

I can confirm that the information requested is held by Lincolnshire County Council. I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.

1. For Lincolnshire County Councillors (LCC) there is no agreed policy on wearing lanyards that applies. Guidance is issued to Elected Members at the commencement of their terms of office that requests for them to 'wear (their) identity badge at all times when at County Offices' and advises that they will be issued with an ID and Lanyard.

This guidance does not include details of when a lanyard should be removed.

2. Between April 2024 and March 2025 LCC issued- 675 lanyards in total.

This is broken down as below (cost including 20% VAT):

LCC Green lanyards - 392 - costing LCC £638.96

Red Social Work lanyards - 149 - costing LCC £172.84

Purple Councillor - 16 - costing LCC £18.56

White lanyard for temporary staff - 118 - costing LCC £136.88

Total cost: £967.24

(3) None was purchased
