Consumer complaint – dog food appears to differ in texture and appearance from previous purchases of the same product
Reported to the manufacturer by the consumer. The manufacturer sampled the product and found it satisfactory. The consumer remained concerned and referred the matter to Trading Standards. A sample was submitted to the Public Analyst (PA); results were satisfactory.

Manufacturer contacted by Lincolnshire Trading Standards. The manufacturer had already conducted its own investigation. Copies of sample results and the analyst’s report were reviewed. Product found to be satisfactory.

Officer-initiated complaint – unsatisfactory dog food sample taken by Lincolnshire Trading Standards. Product described as gluten free but found to contain gluten
Manufacturer contacted by Lincolnshire Trading Standards regarding sample results. The specific product line had already been discontinued, and the range was reformulated to remove gluten-free descriptions.

8 complaints were recorded concerning a dog food manufacturer based in Lincolnshire. These arose during the approval process for registration as pet food establishments, which requires microbiological testing. The complaints followed unsatisfactory microbiological sample results being notified to Trading Standards.
Monitoring and liaison with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and the business. The approval process is prior to the food placed on the market, therefore no recalls were required.

5 complaints were recorded concerning three separate dog food manufacturers based in Lincolnshire. These arose during the approval process for registration as pet food establishments, which requires microbiological testing.
