Costs incurred in complying with the Climate Change Act 2008 since May 2022

Request

1) I am writing to request information on the costs incurred by the council in complying with the Climate Change Act 2008 since May 2022.

2) Specifically, I would like to know the total expenditure related to compliance, including - but not limited to

2a) costs within the Housing,

2b) Transport,

2c) Executive departments.

2d) If possible, please provide a breakdown of these costs by department.

Decision

1. There are no specific costs / budgets for compliance with the Climate Change Act. The Council has an environmental programme – but this is delivered for a large variety of reasons. For example, the Council has delivered energy efficiency projects – but these have reduced greenhouse gas emissions, reduced energy costs, improved lighting or comfort levels, extended the life of the buildings, adapted the building for a new use, been part of a wider refurbishment project, etc. The Council’s budgets are not managed in a way that budget items are specified for compliance with individual pieces of legislation.

There are no projects that have been delivered solely for the purpose of compliance with the Climate Change Act.

2.

a. The County Council does not have a Housing department – in two tier authority areas housing is a district council responsibility.

b-d. The Council’s budgets are not managed to give compliance costs for individual pieces of legislation broken down by department.
