The Annual Safety and Assurance Performance Report (Fire and Rescue)

Request

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) create a published Annual Safety and Assurance Performance Report and as part of this progress we consider our performance against other UK Fire Services.

We are looking to obtain the following information:

1) Total No. of uniformed employees as of 1 April 2025

2) Total No. of non-uniformed employees as of 1 April 2025

3) Total No of Near Misses 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

4) Total number of accident/injuries (including RIDDOR but not Covid) 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

5) Number of injuries (not RIDDOR reportable) 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

6) Number of injuries (RIDDOR reportable but not Covid related) 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

7) No of operational incidents 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

8) Total number of vehicle accidents reported in relation to service vehicles 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

9) Number of vehicle accidents associated with attendance at operational incidents 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

10) Total number of Acts of Violence against staff and of these how many were physical, how many were verbal and how many occurred during Operational activities 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026

Decision

1) 503 is the distinct headcount (count of unique people) of retained and wholetime employees as at 31 March 2025. (we do 'as at' end-of-month days, this is closer than 30 April would have been to the requested date.) Alternatively, If you want to count people twice (as the home office does) if they fill both WT and Retained roles, then our 'active contract' count for 31 March 2025, for Wholetime and Retained, is 596.

2) 98 green book employees (this is both the distinct/unique headcount, and the number of active contracts) as at 31 March 2025

3) 56 near misses in that time period

4) 60 personal injuries

5) 57 non RIDDOR injuries

6) 3 RIDDOR reportable injuries

7) 7,632 incidents

8) 49 accidents in relation to service vehicles

9) 17 accidents associated with attendance at operational incidents

10) 2 injuries recorded as 'injured by an assault or violence' in this time period
