• When assessing transport eligibility to a school outside the designated transport area the officer would first look at the measurements to the non-DTA school and the DTA school. This information is supplied on the transport database.

• At this point the officer is likely to send a standard refusal letter to the applicant. If there is little difference in the distance the officer may check to find out if there have been any driving measures conducted. Maps are held in secure shared folders which the officer can access.

• If, following a refusal, the applicant makes a preliminary appeal for transport an officer would check that we have refused transport in accordance with the School and College Transport Policy and, if the query concerns which school is the nearer, maps will be checked and the Fieldwork team may be asked to measure to both schools.
