Alternative Provision Education Providers

Please could I have the following information for the 2024/5 and the 2025/6 financial years. If this information is not yet possible to get for the 2025/6 year, I am happy to just take it for the 2024/5 year.



1) All alternative provision education providers operating in your authority.

2) Whether each provider is run on-site, online or in another way.

3) How many pupils are taught at each provider.

4) How many hours of tuition each provider offers each pupil per week.

5) Cost per week per pupil for each provider.

6) Cost per year per pupil for each provider.

4. Placements are made based on number of hours required by the local authority. Each placement is  commissioned on an individual basis and may very over time including from week to week. It is not possible therefore to provide an average amount of hours delivered to each pupil  per week without analysing each of the 320+ placements for each year. This will incur the 18 hour threshold allowable under the FOI act. To find out how many hours of tuition a provider may offer to individual pupils as part of as part of its overall offer to all commissioners, please contact the relevant establishment.

5. In line with the above, costs will depend on the amount of hours delivered each week, which may vary from pupil to pupil and may also vary over time. . It is not possible therefore to provide an average amount of hours delivered to each pupil  per week without analysing each of the 320+ placements for each year. However, the attached spreadsheet shows both the number of  placements commissioned and the total spend with that provider in the given financial year.

6. In line with the above,  costs will depend on the amount of hours delivered each week.
