Bourne Grammar School and Grammar School Transport Access

Home to school transport eligibility, designated transport areas and the evidence relied upon by the Council in relation to Bourne Grammar School and grammar school transport access for Greatford.



Please provide the following information, focused specifically on the designated transport area map and the methodology used to create it:

1. Please provide the current designated transport area map, or maps, showing the grammar school designated transport areas relevant to Bourne Grammar School and the surrounding area, including the boundary used to determine whether Greatford falls inside or outside the relevant designated transport area.

2. Please provide the methodology used to create and maintain the Bourne Grammar School designated transport area boundary, including whether it is based on a fixed distance radius, shortest walking route, shortest driving route, straight-line distance, parish boundaries, historic catchment arrangements, transport routes, or another method.

3. Please confirm whether the Bourne Grammar School designated transport area boundary is intended to represent a 5.9-mile distance from Bourne Grammar School in all directions. If it is not a consistent radius, please explain why the boundary varies by location and what criteria were used to determine those variations.

4. Please explain why Greatford is not included within any grammar school designated transport area, including the evidence, policy basis, decision record or rationale relied upon when determining that Greatford should fall outside the relevant boundary.

5. Please confirm whether any homes, villages or settlements included within the Bourne Grammar School designated transport area are further from Bourne Grammar School than homes in Greatford. If so, please provide the settlement name, measured distance and the reason those locations are included while Greatford is excluded.

6. Please provide any supporting documents, internal guidance, committee reports, consultation papers, GIS data, maps or records explaining how the Bourne Grammar School designated transport area boundary was determined, approved and last reviewed.

DTA areas around schools were decided by councillors following changes to the education system in the 70s and 80s when many grammar schools amalgamated with the then secondary modern schools to become comprehensive schools; offering an education to all abilities of pupils.  Boundaries may be based on parishes or old catchment areas.

3. DTAs are based on boundaries not distances.  Distances are used for eligibility purposes.  In law school transport must be provided to the nearest school that is over 3 miles distant (or 2 miles for primary schools).

4. In common with many parts of Lincolnshire Greatford does not have a DTA grammar school.
