Reports of supermarkets selling food past its use-by date

Request

Last year you responded to my Freedom of Information request, (reference number in the subject line) regarding reports of supermarkets selling food past its use-by date.
I'm now updating my investigation and would be grateful if you could provide the same information for the period from date of your previous response to the present, including the further information previously asked for and inform me of any updates to any investigations in spreadsheet form.
If it is easier, and no new cases have been recorded, please could you simply confirm that there have been no further reports during that period.

Questions from previous request:

1) How many complaints have been received by Trading Standards in 2023, 2024 and 2025 (to date) relating to

supermarkets selling food past its Use By Date, including any complaints received via Consumer line.

2) For each complaint, please provide:

a) The month and year the complaint was received

b) The name of the supermarket involved (if recorded)

c) A brief description or category of the issue

d) Details of any enforcement or investigative action taken as a result of the complaint

e) If you are unable to provide all the requested details due to time/cost limits, please prioritise providing a summary count of complaints by supermarket and year.

3) Environmental Health Department: How many complaints were received in

2023, 2024 and 2025 (to date) about supermarkets selling food past its Use By Date?

4) For each complaint, please provide:

a) The month and year it was received.

b) The name of the supermarket (if available)

c) A short description or category of the issue

d) Any enforcement or follow-up action taken

5) How many food poisoning complaints were received in relation to supermarkets in 2023, 2024 and 2025 (to date)?

6) For each report of food poisoning, please provide:

a) The date of the complaint

b) The supermarket involved

c) The product in question (if known)

d) Any outcome or action taken, including whether the case was confirmed as food poisoning

The information requested under this part of the question relates to traders in breach of legislation that Lincolnshire Trading Standards is responsible for enforcing. The information you have requested is exempt from disclosure under section 31(1)(g) of the Freedom of Information Act.

The type of business involved were as follows:

• Independent shop – 1 (January 2025)

• Supermarkets – 2 (March 2025, September 2025)
