2024 ANNUAL PARISH MEETING - CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Cosy Corner, which is held in the Jubilee Room, has had another successful year. It was started as a "warm space”, but has become a gathering place for wonderful people sharing either games or just chatting for a few hours on a Monday. Everyone is welcome - it is open from 11 am until 3 pm. We thank our friends and everyone for their contributions to the group.
The Christmas Market was another fantastic success, with the demand for stalls exceeding expectations. We would like to thank the Dunholme & District Indoor Bowls committee for their support in making space available in the bowls club and to the village for their continued support.
Once again, the village hall and bowls club were decorated with Christmas lights. We also added lights to the tall tree by the village hall entrance, which looked wonderful and added to the Christmas spirit. The Parish Council has received many positive comments.
The challenges in organising such an event cannot be underestimated. In particular, the work involved in taking bookings during the year, but also the stress of dealing with and organising stall holders on the day. I would like to acknowledge Cllr. Sarah Keetley's tireless contribution to making the market a success.
CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
The lighting of the Christmas Tree on Mainwaring Close has seen attendance rise each year. Last December we were delighted to be entertained by Brownies singing carols. Perhaps we should consider creating a more festive atmosphere for the lighting ceremony in 2024.
VILLAGE ROADS
The Parish Council has been repeatedly in contact with LCC Highways regarding the condition of roads in the village. A meeting was arranged with a representative of LCC Highways and a county councillor, during which we drove around all roads in the village. The outcome was that Lincoln and Ryland Roads were resurfaced, but only a small number of oversize potholes were treated.
Mysteriously, Honeyholes Lane was ignored; it remains in an appalling condition and the Parish Council shall continue to remind LCC Highways.
SEATING AROUND THE VILLAGE
We have replaced a number of old and damaged seats with new seating, manufactured using recyclable materials. More are planned - if any residents would like to see seats provided at a particular site please contact the Parish Council.
NEW PROPOSED PLAY AREA HONEYHOLES LANE
The concept was for a play area which met special needs, providing equipment for all ages and abilities.
Cllr. Carrie Forrester took on the lead role regarding the type of equipment that would be required. A large part of the project involved conducting surveys with the local primary school, play group, parents young and not so young, along with any other potential users of the equipment.
A final plan was put together in collaboration with KOMPAN, a play equipment supplier. The next step was funding, which we applied for but unfortunately in this instance we were unsuccessful. The concept is fantastic; we need to see a conclusion and for the play area to become a reality.
CHANGE OF VILLAGE GRASS CUTTING CONTRACTOR
The Parish Council went out to tender for a new contractor. All applications were considered and the council voted to change to: Freddie Allen Landscapes. Should you have any comments please do not hesitate to contact the Parish Council.
PROPOSED EXTENTIONS AND ALTERATIONS REMODELLING TO DUNHOLME VILLAGE HALL & DUNHOLME & DISTRICT INDOOR BOWLS CLUB
Feasibility Study
- The project is to remodel the (indoor Bowls club & Village Hall) complex.
- To find space within the complex to cater for socialising, bistro style environment.
- Probably the most exciting project since the Village Hall was built.
