Corporate grandparent
We provide support as the corporate grandparent to care experienced young people who are pregnant or already have a child or children.
We will:
- help care experienced young people find support around being a parent and help make links with groups and other young parents (including young fathers)
- show a genuine interest in the child or children’s well-being and development
- support care experienced young people to do the best for their child and support them to develop skills to be a good parent
- help care experienced young people to get information and advice about helps with childcare, benefits and any grants they may be entitled to
- support care experienced young people with developing support network by sign posting and supporting attend community support available
- provide access to a child’s new homes grant (up to £500) if the child lives with the care experienced young person and they are born before the care experienced young person turns 21 years of age. To buy equipment and items needed in the home for a growing and developing child
- additional support can be given by accommodation worker, well being worker and post 16 education, employment and training support teams to offer next steps and aspiration planning for the family
- contact all care experienced parents up to the age of 25 twice a year specifically to see how they are doing as young parents and if they need any support face to face support can be offered
