Waddington site safety brief
Waddington is a “live” working training site and several training activities may be taking place at the same time.
Whilst on this site you are responsible for your own safety and the safety of others. You must be aware of hazardous activities being carried out by other users and always adhere to any restrictions and cordons that are in place.
Please read this safety brief before entering the site.
Parking
Park in designated parking spaces and keep to designated roadways unless instructed otherwise by Site staff. Be vigilant for moving service and contractor vehicles. Driving speed is restricted to 10 MPH.
Pedestrians
Use designated marked walkways and crossing points and be vigilant for moving vehicles.
Welfare
The medical room is in the building by the main car park. Any illness or injury should be reported immediately to directing staff. An ambulance will be called if necessary.
If you feel ill, or feel you are not fit enough to continue with training, please bring this to the attention of directing staff.
Emergency evacuation and rendezvous point
Upon hearing the evacuation sound (repeated whistle sound or air horn) please make your way to the Fire Assembly Point on the drill yard, where a roll call will take place.
Toilets
- Inside toilets are in the mess room - no training attire permitted.
- Outside toilets - training attire permitted.
Smoking area
No Smoking or vaping is permitted on site other than at the identified location at the rear of the outside toilets.
Lighting on site
This is limited at night. Additional lighting must be used whilst moving around the site.
Aircraft
Due to the location of the training centre there may be aircraft taking off and landing nearby - do not get distracted.
Grassed areas
Be aware of uneven ground, rabbit holes etc. Do not venture on top of the bunkers.
Personnel hygiene
Be vigilant of personal hygiene. Hand washing facilities and sanitiser is available on site.
Dogs
Be aware of dogs on site. Do not feed the dogs with your food.
Restricted areas
- The Rubble Piles are “live” and may shift and move - only trained or supervised personnel with correct PPE are allowed on to the rubble pile.
- The Fire Behaviour and BA Search and Rescue areas may have smoke and fires - these may be hot.
- Even when cold DO NOT ENTER the BA facilities without PPE/RPE and supervision.
- The crane - do not climb unless using WAH PPE and under supervision.
- Remember when mounting and dismounting appliances and service vehicles to use the “3 points of contact”.
- Live casualties will have been briefed with the word of command “For Real”.
- Adhere to manual handling techniques at all times. Manual handling techniques apply to all activities including casualty handling and tool use.
- Use all PPE and equipment to manufacturers and service guidance when undertaking training.
