A1084/A631 Safer Roads Fund improvements

Working with North Lincolnshire Council and North East Lincolnshire Council, we received funding from central government to improve safety on some of the county's riskiest roads.

A631 between Louth and Middle Rasen

The proposed works include:

  • resurfacing the road to improve skid resistance
  • lowering the speed limit
  • installing average speed cameras
  • widening the road and placing rumble strips
  • installing reactive speed signs

The proposed works include:

  • lowering the existing speed limit
  • upgrading the road's skid resistance
  • installing rumble strips to the road edge
  • improving safety at bends

A1084 between Caistor and Brigg (in partnership with North Lincolnshire)

The proposed works include:

  • lowering speed limits
  • skid resistance upgrades
  • shoulder widening
  • shoulder rumble strips
  • footway/pedestrian improvements

A18 between the A16 and the County Boundary (in partnership with NE Lincs)

The proposed works include:

  • speed limit reduction near Ludborough
  • improvements to Barton Street
  • improved signage
  • obstruction removal
  • placing rumble strips at the edge of the carriageway

The Department for Transport's £175m Safer Roads Fund was set up to improve safety on the 50 highest-risk A roads in England. These roads were identified by the Road Safety Foundation.

Aims and benefits

The project aims and benefits are to:

  • Improve safety and reduce collisions on some of the county's highest risk roads
  • Unlock growth and improve connectivity

Cost and funding

We (and partners North Lincolnshire Council and North East Lincolnshire Council) received a total of £7.4m from the Safer Roads Fund.

  • £1,245,000 – A1084, between Caistor and Brigg
  • £645,000 – A631 Middle Rasen to Bishops Bridge
  • £2,725,000 – A631 Louth to Middle Rasen
  • £2,822,000 – A18, between the A16 and the County Boundary
