Learn new skills and re-build confidence to enhance future job prospects

The world of work is changing rapidly and it can be hard to keep up with the skills you need to progress in your career.

Being out of work, even only for a short time, can really affect your confidence and hamper the prospects of your future employment.

Thankfully there is lots of support available to people at all stages of their working lives, with a huge range of training courses in Lincolnshire, which are easy to access and predominantly free of charge.

If you need help learning the latest IT programmes, want to embark on a new career or perform better in interviews, there’s a course that can help you.

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for adult learning said: “Employment helps boost people’s wellbeing, confidence and stability. We know many Lincolnshire businesses are actively looking to recruit now and in the future, so it’s important we have a workforce to support their growth too.

“Our adult learning courses offer you ways to develop your skills, get back into work or even start a new career entirely – whatever stage of your working life.”

Opening up opportunities

24-year-old Kia (pictured) took the opportunity to take a 10-week course in business administration while out of work: “I had done lots of different jobs previously, but nothing long term,” he said.

“I saw this opportunity to do a kick-start course and I thought even if business administration is not the direction I want to take permanently, it will give me a safety net and a foundation to work from. But I was surprised to find that the skills and confidence I got from the course have been useful to me in so many ways going forward.”

Kia is now employed part-time as a football coach through Riverside Training and is positive about his next steps in employment. He added: “To anyone considering enrolling on a course like this I would say it is something that’s worth considering very seriously.

“Read the course aims and if it speaks to you, go for it. It had such a positive effect on my confidence, communication skills and just learning how to be comfortable in an office environment.

“I would say it has helped me turn a corner and I now have every reason to be confident about my future.”
