Project contractor helps young people explore opportunities in construction

Galliford Try

Galliford Try attended the Young People's Learning Provision (YPLP) career fair on Friday 1 April.

As part of the event, three young people from Galliford Try’s Grantham Southern Relief Road project team attended – including graduate engineer Etienne Hodges, graduate quantity surveyor Gemma Dunn, and apprentice engineer Joe Miles.

During the event, they shared their individual journeys with other young people at the event who had expressed an interest in working in the construction industry – and the team was overwhelmed by the amount of interest they received on the day.

Gino Salvatore, Liaison Manager for Galliford Try, said: “Galliford Try continues to support the local community and have agreed to explore and support opportunities within our construction industry.

“Having established contact with the Grantham YPLP, we have been looking at ways to encourage young people into considering a career in construction. Our ambition is to support the education of future minds, helping them to explore and prepare for their future careers.

“Our team has focused on supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities and we were delighted to support the SEND career fair organised and hosted by the Grantham YPLP.

“It’s a privilege for us to help these young people and give them support and advice about the ‘world of work’, what they can expect and how they can achieve their goals.”

Tracey Manley, employment officer for special educational needs and disabilities with YPLP, said: “Thank you so much for attending our careers event. The GT team were a credit to the event, and the young learners really enjoyed meeting and chatting to them.

“I look forward to working with the team again. Once again thank you from me, my team, and the young learners.”
