Giving children in care a place to call home

Teenagers in residential care for 12–18-year-old

A new children’s home in Louth will ensure young people in care remain close to their local community and support networks, bringing better outcomes.

Lincolnshire County Council has put forward proposals for a new six-bedroom children’s home in the town. The facility would provide residential care for 12–18-year-olds with individual needs and strengths, with an emphasis on creating a domestic and homely environment for them.

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for children’s services, said:

“Over the last few years, we’ve seen a rising number of young people needing care, so it’s important we have enough accommodation here in Lincolnshire for those who need it. To that end, the council has earmarked £1.5m for the creation of two new children’s homes at sites in Louth and Lincoln."

“The new homes will provide high-quality facilities for children in care and will mean that fewer children will need to be placed in homes outside the county. The new homes will ensure these children remain close to their local community and existing support networks, leading to better outcomes."

“There will be a full consultation on the proposals for Louth as part of the planning process, during which people will have an opportunity to share their views. We will keep local residents informed as the project progresses.”

A planning application was submitted in early April 2022. If the project is approved, construction is expected to begin in late 2022, with work completed by the end of 2023.
