Improvements to A52/B1391 crossroads in Swineshead scheduled for June

Swineshead crossroad A52

Works to rebuild sections of the A52/B1391 Swineshead crossroads will begin in late June.

The works, which will be carried out in four phases, will start on Monday 20 June for up to six weeks.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “This crucial set of crossroads in Swineshead is starting to deteriorate, so we’ve taken the decision to make improvements now before it gets any worse.

“This is set to be a massive project that will involve excavating all of the current carriageway ahead of fully re-building it using nearly 3,000 tonnes of tarmac and other road-building materials.

“While on site, we’ll also be taking the opportunity to clean out all of the crossroad’s drains and gullies to help prevent unnecessary disruption in the future.”

Below are details of the four phases of work (all dates subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances):

Phase 1 – A52 between B1391 and A1121

  • Monday 20 June to 25 June, weekday evenings only
  • Night-time road closure on A52, between the B1391 and A1121 junction, from 7pm to 6am
  • Diversion route via A1121 to A17, and vice versa

Phase 2 – A52 between the A17 and B1391 Junction

  • 27 June to 8 July, weekday evenings only
  • Night-time road closure on A52, between the A1121 and B1391 junction, from 7pm to 6am
  • Diversion route via A1121 to A17, and vice versa

Phase 3 – B1391 between the A17 and B1397

  • 11 July to 22 July, weekday evenings only
  • Night-time road closure on B1391 between the A17 and B1397 from 7pm to 6am
  • Diversion route via B1397 through Kirton to the A17, and vice versa

Phase 4 – A52 between A17 and A1121 & B1391 between A17 and B1397

  • 25 July to Monday 1 August, weekday evenings only
  • Full crossroads closure on A52 and B1391 from 7pm to 6am
  • A52 diversion via A1121 to A17 / B1391 diversion via B1397 through Kirton to the A17

Cllr Davies added: “We'll be doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum, including carrying all of the works out overnight to keep people moving in the day. We’ll also be maintaining access for residents and emergency vehicles via a gateperson during working hours.

“These improvements will make travelling through Swineshead safer and more comfortable for all road users, so we thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential works.”
