A new exhibition coming to The Collection Museum, called Microworld: Lincoln, is an immersive, digital world filled with creatures that you can design, interact, and play with.

Opening on 9 July 2022, Microworld: Lincoln is made up of eight spectacular digital worlds – or ‘ecosystems’ – and the moment you enter the gallery you will become part of the transformative experience.

Audience members can design their very own creature using their smartphones, or on tablets provided in the gallery. Once the creatures are released into the unique digital realm, the audience can interact with them through movement and watch how they respond to their surroundings and other artificial life.

Jenny Gleadell, exhibitions officer at The Collection Museum, said:

“It’s an old cliché but this exhibition really does have something for everyone. On the face of it, families will enjoy creating creatures and interacting with them in these bright, colourful, digital worlds.

“Our tech-savvy visitors will be able to geek-out about the technology used to create these spaces and interact with them. And others will enjoy seeing how the exhibition explores the relationships between us, the digital world, and the natural world.

“I’m sure all our visitors will find it beautiful, fun and unique though!”

Inspired by ecosystems found in nature, these digital creatures have life cycles, energy needs and survival techniques. Microworld is an evolving space with colours, patterns, shapes and artificial beings which are connected to everything else, making it ever changing and not even the creators can predict what will happen next!

Artists Genetic Moo have run 15 Microworlds which have delighted over 250,000 visitors around the world, including audiences at Eureka the National Children’s Museum in Halifax, but it has never-before been shown on this scale.

Tickets have now been released for you to experience this brand new, immersive exhibition priced at only £3.

Alongside Microworld: Lincoln there will be a programme of unmissable events and fun activities for everyone to enjoy including monthly late nights, which will be announced very soon.

Those who are looking for a more relaxed experience of this popular exhibition can visit in our ‘Chilled Out’ opening hours on Wednesday mornings from 9am to 10am.
