A career to make a difference

You can help give children a great start in life with a role in childcare.

It is widely accepted that the earliest years of a child’s life have the biggest impact on their future. Childcare professionals play a vital role in laying the foundations to help children and families grow and flourish.

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for children’s services, said: “Working in childcare is an opportunity to make a real difference, and it can be very rewarding to see the children grow and develop.

“Schools often say they can tell which children have had the opportunity to socialise and learn at a nursery or a childminder’s as they often seem to be a step ahead.”

Childcare professionals come from all walks of life, and there are opportunities within the sector for all levels of qualifications, whether you have just left school or considering a change of career later in life.

“As a childminder I can run my own business and still be there for my own family,” said Natalie of Busy Tots Childminding South Witham.

“I used to be an accounts manager, but I wanted something I could fit around my own children, while still giving me a challenging and rewarding career.”

Childcare is not just rewarding; it is increasingly being recognised as one the most important careers for the future of our communities in the UK.

The Duchess of Cambridge launched the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood in 2021 with the purpose of driving the awareness of the importance of the early years in relation to the crucial role it has in shaping our future societies. “The early years are not simply about how we raise our children, they are about the society we will become” said the Duchess of Cambridge.
