Tickets are now available for The Collection Museum’s upcoming exhibition – Best Art Vinyl: Album Artwork Through the Ages.

Opening on Saturday 22 October, the exhibition celebrates the creativity and ingenuity behind the design of iconic vinyl album covers from 1949 to 2021. Explore the history and inspiration behind instantly recognisable covers such as Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures, the Sex Pistol’s Never Mind the Bollocks, and The Beatles’ White Album, among many other classics.

The exhibition will also include a juke box installation where visitors can listen to their favourite tracks from previous decades.

Best Art Vinyl: Album Artwork Through the Ages is a touring exhibition in collaboration with The Civic, Barnsley; and Art Vinyl.

At The Collection Museum, visitors will also get the chance to see items from Lincolnshire’s sometimes surprising musical past, including newspaper articles about its own version of Woodstock that happened in a rural Lincolnshire village in the 1970s.

The exhibition is accompanied by the Best Art Vinyl Award, the annual search for the most creative and well-designed record cover of the year.

The award sees a diverse shortlist of the 50 best record covers of the year compiled by a panel of highly respected industry experts, artists, and designers. The public is invited to vote for their favourites online at www.artvinyl.com or in person at the exhibition itself, from 8 November. Final winners will be revealed on 5 January 2023 at an event at The Hari Hotel in Belgravia, London.

Laura Garner from the exhibitions team at The Collection Museum said:

“When we think about the great albums we love, we probably think firstly about the music, our favourite tracks, and the way it makes us feel. But album artwork enhances our enjoyment of music in its own unique way, and this exhibition is a real celebration of that artistry.

“While it’s here at The Collection, we’re also inviting visitors to get involved and contribute their own favourite vinyl album to the display, and even share their favourite music memory via the Museum of Music Memories.”

Tickets for the exhibition cost £5 per person, or £3.50 for concessions.

The Best Art Vinyl exhibition will be accompanied by a packed programme of public events, including Vinyl Disco Nights and industry-expert talks. Tickets for these events will be launched soon.

Best Art Vinyl: Album Artwork Through the Ages will run at The Collection Museum in Lincoln from Saturday 22 October 2022 to Sunday 22 January 2023.
