Locals’ lockdown art goes on display at Usher Gallery

Art out of isolation

The Usher Open Exhibition: art out of isolation showcases work by artists from across Lincolnshire and is on display at the gallery until 7 January 2023.

This is the first time the Usher Trust – a charitable organisation who support the work of The Usher Gallery through fundraising and events – has organised an open exhibition. The aim of the exhibition is to support all residents of Lincolnshire who have a passion for art, allowing them to exhibit their work in the Usher Gallery.

Ian Walters, Chair of the Usher Trust said:

The title of the exhibition acknowledges the pent-up energy for engagement with art that built up during the Covid pandemic. It has burst into life! The Trustees of the Usher Gallery Trust very much hope that you enjoy this exhibition of art, made in Lincolnshire.

The exhibition saw an impressive number of submissions. The Usher Trust received entries from 288 people across Lincolnshire, amounting to a grand total of over 700 pieces of art, covering a variety of mediums from painting, photography, sculpture, fabric, graffiti to mixed media and including art styles from realism to pure abstraction.

To select the final pieces for the exhibition, the Trust worked with a panel of expert judges, who managed to whittle down the selection to 187 selected works, showing a total of 136 artists. Most works are for sale in the exhibition, and there will be something for everyone with the exhibition showcasing the broad range of artistic talent from across the county.

Andrea Martin, Exhibitions, and Interpretation Manager, said:

We are delighted to be able to work with the Usher Trust to bring this open opportunity for Lincolnshire-based artists to exhibit their work in the Usher Gallery. The exhibition is a testament to the talents of the artists living and working in the county.

The Usher Gallery, on Danes Terrace in Lincoln, is open from Thursdays to Mondays each week from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.
