Grantham Southern Relief Road December update

Work is set to progress on phases two and three throughout December.

What we achieved in November

Phase Two

  • Carried out final street light earthing, testing and commissioning on the A1

Phase Three

  • West side of site – installed Pier 2 and Pier 3 / installed liner to Pond B
  • East side of side – continued construction of grass channel at Whalebone Lane / continued Pier 4 concreting works / began laying sub-base and installing gullies to development roundabout / completed planting works at Somerby Hill Roundabout

What's happening in December

Phase Two

  • Lay lining and high friction surfacing on new section of A1
  • Install signage for the new A1 junction with the relief road

Phase Three

  • West side of site – carry out works to concrete infills at Piers 1, 2 and 3 / install drainage to Pond B / install filter drains near the west embankment
  • East side of side – complete verge finishings at Whalebone Lane / continue Pier 4 concreting works / carry out kerbing installation and sub-base trim at development roundabout / excavate and remove east embankment back to the location of the new east abutment / carry out surfacing works between Whalebone Lane and its access with the quarry

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Lane Restrictions Around the B1174 Roundabout to facilitate the construction of the haul route and access into site
  • Whalebone Lane closed
  • Lane restrictions around Somerby Hill Roundabout

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Overnight A1 northbound closure on Friday 9 December, 8pm to 6am
  • Overnight A1 southbound closure on Friday 16 and Monday 19 December, 8pm to 6am
  • Overnight A1 northbound and southbound lane 1 closures; Monday 12 December for up to four evenings (weekday evenings only), 8pm to 6am
