Relief road team donates and builds new water table for Spalding nursery

Four children play on a water table

Four of Taylor Woodrow’s Spalding Western Relief Road construction team recently donated their time to build an interactive water table for Sunflower Lodge Childcare in Pinchbeck.

Designed with STEAM at its heart, the new table lets the children invent new ways to interact while adding new elements to sensory and messy play like soapy suds, marbles, flowers or homemade boats. They can also experiment with the three-way racing gates which can open and close to different heights to control flow and water direction.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “It's important that the money we spend on big contracts brings value-for-money and as many benefits as possible to the county and the communities where we’re carrying out works.

"To achieve this, we place a big emphasis on social value – or contributing to the long-term wellbeing and resilience of individuals, communities and society. And this donation of time and skill by the Taylor Woodrow team is a perfect example of this.”

Rachel Galley, Regional Social Value Lead for Taylor Woodrow, said: "Giving something back to the local community and leaving a lasting legacy that goes beyond the life of the construction project is really important to our local team.

“We try to make a differences in the communities we work, including investing in the next generation of engineers and builders.”

Rebecca Evans, manager and owner of Sunflower Lodge Childcare, said: "The children love the water table! Because of it, they get lots of opportunities to explore water play, share, and take turns, which helps with their critical thinking and understanding of the world around them.

"Because it's all-different sizes its suitable for all ages of children. We love it!"
