Spalding Western Relief Road July update

A number of works have now been completed, with more beginning this month.

What we achieved in April/May/June

  • Constructed east and west load transfer platforms
  • Poured concrete for the new bridge’s west and east abutment bases
  • Delivered and storing large volumes of light-weight fill material
  • Installed cofferdam at abutment and pier location, along with back-filling east abutment
  • Installed headwall at Blue Gowt Lane
  • Installed drainage at the east low height embankment
  • Installed material for west embankment surcharge
  • Installed band drains alongside gas slab
  • Installed kerbing and edging, drainage and streetlighting at eastern low height embankment

What's happening in July/August/September

  • Construct culvert at Blue Gowt Lane
  • Install root barrier
  • Continue pier pile cropping
  • Backfill west abutment and construct wall
  • Build east abutment wall; east pier base and wall; and west pier base and wall
  • Complete settlement of / commence surcharge removal at / install kerbing and drainage at junction at the end of the scheme
  • Instal earth retaining walls

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Closure of Two Plank Bridge, its connecting footpath and the footpath on the Wygate estate across the rail line
  • Closure of Blue Gowt Lane for culvert construction from  – Monday 3 July for up to six weeks
