Grantham gets big bus upgrade

More convenient bus services are en route.

Residents in Grantham are set to benefit from improved bus services that deliver more frequent and longer journeys in and around town.

Bus operator Centrebus, in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council, has enhanced services in the area to encourage more people back on the buses.

Route 1, which serves Grantham town centre, will run more frequently - up to every 15 minutes for most of the timetable. Previously, the buses ran every 30 minutes.

Route 28 is also upgraded, with an extended route that serves more locations - including nearby Stamford. Previously, the service only ran between Grantham and South Witham.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive councillor for highways and transport, said: “These improved services are fantastic news for people looking to get about in and around Grantham.

“Not only will these services provide people with easier access to town in a reliable, environmentally-friendly alternative to a car, but they will also increase access to and from nearby towns like Stamford.

“With these improved services and all Centrebus single journeys currently capped at £2, it’s a great time to catch a bus to get where you're going.”

Stuart Forrester, Centrebus Depot Manger, added: “We’re sure the improvements being introduced to the route 1 service in Grantham along with the extension of a number of journeys on route 28 beyond South Witham to Stamford will be welcomed by current local bus users and will make these bus routes attractive for more people to try the bus as a viable alternative to travelling by car.

“This is a great time for us to be moving up a gear to deliver the improvements to routes 1 and 28 in partnership with Lincolnshire Council and with all Centrebus single journeys currently capped at just £2 – we urge people to go on- get on board!”

The additional routes are possible thanks to Bus Service Improvement Plan grant funding from the UK Government.
