Volunteers from Lincoln are teaming up in a bid to encourage others to try something new and become volunteers at the Collection museum in Lincoln.
Daisy Chambers (24) had finished at art college in Lincoln in 2017 and was looking for a job when she decided to become a volunteer at the Collection and Usher Gallery. Daisy now works at the museums on a part-time basis in a paid role.
"I absolutely love coming here. It is quite possibly the best job in the world! I get to meet new people, work as part of a great team and see some amazing exhibits.
"I was lucky enough to help at the Dinosaur exhibition and the V&A exhibition, as well as meeting members of the public every day. It has really boosted my confidence, whilst being in an environment I love."
Sebastian Newell (20), a student from Lincoln, spent his summer holidays as a volunteer at the Collection Museum's Dinosaur Encounter exhibition.
Seb said: "I've always loved working with people and from a young age I've had a really keen interest in dinosaurs. When I saw the advert to be a volunteer - I jumped at the chance.
"I'm actually studying for a degree in palaeontology, so this was a perfect opportunity to share my knowledge with visitors to the museum. It gave the chance to develop my communication skills – making dinosaurs and fossils interesting to a younger audience.
"It was an amazing experience – one I would love to repeat."
Paul Mason, visitor experience manager, said: "Volunteers really are the life-blood of the museum. They get involved in everything from exhibitions, events, schools workshops and the visitor experience – helping visitors have an amazing time and making sure the museum and galleries are welcoming and safe places to visit.
"Both Seb and Daisy were brilliant and we were delighted to have them on our team. Seb volunteered for an amazing 170 hours and Daisy has now got a part-time paid position with us.
"We'd love it if more people would like to get involved. We have a range of positions and are flexible with timings - so if this sounds like something of interest – please get in touch."
Anyone who would like to apply is being invited to complete an application form available from the museum reception or online www.thecollectionmuseum.com/getting-involved
