New South Delph footbridge lifted into place

South Delph Bridge

The 40-metre long, 38-tonne pedestrian and cycle bridge, part of the new Lincoln Eastern Bypass, was raised into place on Friday 28 February.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "One of our priorities when designing the new bypass was to ensure everyone, not just people in cars, could make the most of the road once it's opened.

"As part of that, this new bridge over Lincoln's South Delph connects the eastern bypass to the Sustrans cycle path, providing a safe and accessible route for those travelling on foot or bike.

"Now that it's in place, the team will complete the approach embankments and carry out surfacing works and, elsewhere on-site, we have two other pedestrian bridges being built as part of the project, at Greetwell and Bloxholm, as well as a new underpass at Lincoln Road."

The 7.5km Lincoln Eastern Bypass project is part-funded by a £50m Central Government capital grant and will improve Lincoln’s infrastructure, encourage growth, minimise traffic congestion and enhance the inter-city environment.
