Lincoln Castle has won Best Large Visitor Attraction in the Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards 2020.

Announced last night at an awards ceremony held by Lincolnshire Live in partnership with LNER and Visit Lincoln, the Castle was commended for its innovative events programme and the enthusiasm and passion of staff.

Lincoln Castle has an amazing offer in the city – a fabulous wall walk, a Victorian Prison, one of the last remaining Magna Carta's in the UK, and an amazing events programme throughout the year – including jousting, classic cars, medieval weekends, twilight tours, concerts, outdoor cinema, Steampunk, amongst others.

Kim Vickers, general manager of the Castle, said: "We are thrilled to have one this prestigious award. It is a huge achievement and rewards all the hard work of the staff and volunteers based at the site."

"Looking forward to 2020, we have a wonderful programme of events planned. We've got Lucy – our giant dragon arriving at Easter, a school of magic and wizardry planned for later in the year, plus all our usual events.

Cllr Nick Worth, executive member for Culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "I am delighted for the team. They have performed exceptionally well this year and really risen to the challenge. The programme of events has been brilliant – something for everyone. I'm delighted that the Castle is now in the running for a national excellence award."

As a winner of the Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence awards, Lincoln Castle is now automatically entered into the national Visit England's Awards for Excellence2020.
