An overview of progress on the Coastal Carriageway improvement project.

What we achieved in January

Old Roman Bank

  • Reconstructed the verges between Sea Lane and Anderby Creek
  • Reconstructed the base layers of nearly 2 miles of carriageway between Anderby Creek and Chapel St. Leonards

Broadway / York Road in Sutton on Sea

  • Removed the existing concrete road and footways between Station Road and Marisco Court
  • Installed new surface water manhole and gullies between Station Road and Marisco Court
  • Installed new kerbline for footways and channel blocks between Station Road and Marisco Court
  • Installed approximately 50m of new carrier drain pipes

What’s happening in February

Old Roman Bank

  • Install new drainage and kerbing in Chapel St. Leonards
  • Begin road reconstruction in Chapel St. Leonards
  • Continue laying more surface layers between Anderby Creek and Chapel St. Leonards

Broadway / York Road in Sutton on Sea

  • Complete Phase 1 (Station Road to Marisco Court), including new asphalt road construction and footway surfacing
  • Begin Phase 2 (Marisco Court to Broadway Medical Practice), including removal of concrete road and northern footway
  • Continue construction of carrier drain, catchpits and gullies for new surface water drainage system

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

Old Roman Bank

  • Ongoing road closure between Sandilands and Anderby Creek & Anderby Creek and Chapel St Leonards

Broadway / York Road in Sutton on Sea

  • 24/7 road closure on Broadway (total closure from Station Road to Marisco Court, with no access in this area for residents)

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

Old Roman Bank

  • Night-time road closures as required in February to complete the Sea Lane and Old Roman Bank junction 
  • Night-time road closures as required in February/March outside the observatory 

Broadway / York Road in Sutton on Sea

  • 24/7 road closure on Broadway (total closure from Marisco Court to Broadway Medical Practice, with no access in this area for residents)
