Kirkby on Bain resurfacing scheme is go

Kirkby on Bain resurfacing Closure and Diversion route

Wharfe Lane getting an improved road surface and longer life.

Richard Davies, executive member for Highways at LCC, said: “In this part of Kirkby on Bain, it’s a case that the current surface of the road has worn down across years of normal traffic use and is now getting to the end of its workable life.

“Improving the top layers of the road in the way we have planned means that we’re not only raising braking and grip performance for road users, but also sealing in the road to protect it from the worst types of weather which will greatly increase its lifespan.”

Location of works

The works will be carried out at Wharfe Lane, Kirkby on Bain.

Dates and times

The works will begin on Monday, March 17 and have a scheduled end date of Monday, March 24. Work times onsite will be from 07.30 to 17.00, subject to suitable weather. No weekend works are planned.

Traffic management

A road closure is required for the duration of the works with a diversion route in place throughout. However, to reduce the amount of disruption on the local traffic network the road closure will reopen at the end of each shift.

Diversion route

When active during each shift, and using like-for-like roads, the signed diversion route will be; C609 Main Street / C605 Rime’s Lane / A153 / C608 Wharfe Lane / C609 Kirkby Lane and vice versa.

Cllr Davies added: “These works will cost around £150,000 and will bring a very noticeable uplift to the local traffic network.

“The work here is another part of our ongoing roads maintenance plan for the county and whilst we are getting this scheme delivered, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone effected for their patience and understanding. We will do everything possible to minimise disruption including lifting the road closure at the end of each shift.”
