Members of the Overview and Scrutiny Management Board voted unanimously to recommend to Executive that the county council leaves the nuclear waste Community Partnership.
A decision on the council’s membership will be made at Executive on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
Today (Thursday 29 May), members of the Overview and Scrutiny Management Board discussed a report outlining the proposals for a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) in Lincolnshire, and heard speeches from:
- David Fannin, the Chairman of the Community Partnership
- Seth Kybird, the CEO of Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), who are behind the proposals
- Mike Crookes, chairman of Guardians of the East Coast (GOTEC), a campaign group against the proposals
Local county councillor for Saltfleet and the Cotes, Cllr Bayleigh Robinson, also spoke against the proposals, requesting that the council withdraw from the partnership.
After a debate and questions to each of the speakers, the members of the board voted unanimously to recommend to the Executive that the council withdraws from the Community Partnership.
Executive will meet on Tuesday 3 June to make a decision, taking into account the comments made at today's OSMB meeting.
