Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue seek community-minded volunteers to support the launch and development of two new Fire Cadet units.
Based in Grantham and Sleaford, the new units will offer up to 15 Fire Cadets the opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and transferable skills that support future education and employment.
The syllabus is designed to give young people an insight into the fire and rescue service and develop their knowledge and understanding of community safety and well-being.
Mark Baxter, Chief Fire Officer at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and Chair of UK Fire Cadets, said: “I’ve seen hundreds of young people come through Fire Cadets programmes, and what always strikes me is how much they enjoyed it.
“It’s a really welcoming and fun environment, and that only serves to help embed the skills, confidence and connections with local communities that the Fire Cadets offers.
“For young people in Grantham and Sleaford looking to challenge themselves, make new friends, learn new skills, or explore a future in public service, the Fire Cadets is the perfect place to start.”
Cllr Alex McGonigle, executive member for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “The funding award from Government to expand our Fire Cadets in Lincolnshire is great news all round.
“It marks another big step forward in fostering a sense of community in our young people by getting them engaged and positively contributing to their areas.
“We expect there’ll be lots of people wanting to take part, and as such we’re also looking for a number of volunteers to step forward as Cadet Instructors to help us make a difference.”
To make these units a success, we need passionate volunteers to step forward as Cadet Instructors.
Whether you're a retired firefighter, a community-minded individual, or someone working in the emergency services, your experience and enthusiasm can make a lasting impact.
It is also a chance to mentor, lead, and contribute to youth engagement while enhancing your own instructional and communication skills.
If you're interested in becoming a Cadet Instructor or know a young person who would thrive in the Fire Cadet programme, please email: fire.safety@lincolnshire.gov.uk for more information.
