Bus journey changes between Grantham and Nottingham

Joint plan between county councils in place to keep buses running on rural route 

Central Connect are withdrawing a couple of bus services from 31st January: 

  • 86 route from Grantham – Barrowby

  • 93 route from Grantham – Barrowby Gate – Bottesford – Bingham - Nottingham 

 Lincolnshire County Council and Leicestershire County Council have come together to work out replacement services between the locations to keep the bus routes running. 

A new, temporary, service will be operated by Lincolnshire County Council’s Callconnect buses will operate between Grantham and Bottesford from Monday, February 2. The service will alternate via Barrowby(B) or Barrowby Gate(A).  

Centrebus are also introducing a bus service between Grantham, Bottesford and Nottingham. 

Mike Reed, Head of Transport Services at Lincolnshire County Council said: “Lincolnshire County Council recognises the value of rural bus services and will continue to support these communities where possible. We will engage with service users and local parishes before making any long-term decisions.”

86: This service will be withdrawn by Central Connect on Saturday, January 31 

93: This service will also be withdrawn by Central Connect on Saturday, January 31 

Following the news of Central Connects plans to cease operation, Lincolnshire County Council has been working with Leicestershire County Council on an interim replacement plan to keep access to travel for bus passengers. 

Grantham to Bottesford 

Lincolnshire and Leicestershire County Councils have worked together to fund a temporary six month service on the core service route. 

Service 93A/93B will serve Grantham to Bottesford and will start operating on Monday, February 2. 

The service will be put in place for a period of six months to allow both authorities to monitor passenger usage and feedback. The results of that data will feed into planning for a longer-term plan. 

Bottesford to Bingham and direct to Nottingham 

Leicestershire County Council will solely be funding service LC9 (also for an interim period of six months) to ensure continued access by bus for Bottesford residents to both Bingham and direct to Nottingham. 

Centrebus will be operating three return journeys on the LC9, Monday to Saturday from Grantham to Nottingham via Bottesford.
